I wish DL would do an AmEx spend to MQD credit with each $25K in AmEx Spend yielding $3K MQD, i.e. each $25K would be a waiver for Silver, $50K would essentially be an auto-waiver for Gold (while still needing to meet MQMs/MQSs), $75K in AmEx spend earning one $9K in MQD credits. A DM waiver would still be $125K in spend right now.
I think such a system would actually encourage more AmEx spend by more Medallions on the co-branded AmExs over the current system because the system right now doesn't encourage spending much beyond $25K on the co-branded AmEx unless you're going for additional MQMs. In most years I don't put enough on my AmEx to hit a second boost so I stop once I hit $30K to get the boost on my Reserve and I transfer that spend to other CC's for the benefit there. (But I also recognize I'm sitting here playing Armchair Airline Exec and perhaps the folks at DL HQ in ATL did look at such a system and determined the metrics and data indicated otherwise or that such a system would be more complex and not worth the additional hassle).
