It has always been this way, you can generally pay less if you travel outside of school holidays, Easter, Thanksgiving, Xmas etc.
On the other hand you would often see the opposite effect for business fares at these times. In holiday periods, economy goes sky high for leisure/VFR travel but you’d find some of the best business offers available at least on some routes, because no one travels on routine business then.
Post-Covid it’s all a different market of course.
