Hyatt Regency Dubai

Check In We arrived at the hotel around 9pm. The main lobby was quite busy with people enjoying conversation, dinner and just relaxing. We had to wait at the check-in counter just a few minutes as both agents were already assisting other guest. I was recognized as a Globalist and thanked for my loyalty. I was also informed we had been upgraded to a standard suite. I had asked about possibly upgrading to a premium suite but was told they were all sold out. Check-in was efficient, although not much information was given. Since this was our 1st stay, I had to ask about where the club lounge was, timings and such. Room The room was quite adequate and actually nice given the cat 2 listing and using 8k points. I think normally the standard suite is in the $250 range and that may be a bit much for the room. Upon entering we noticed housekeeping had been wonderful enough to wish my wife a Happy Birthday. Nice touch. Bed was a bit stiff, typically found overseas, and the pillows were comfortable. I will note the room had a slight damp?? smell to it. Service I must say we found the service to be fantastic. Everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, the club lounge staff, doormen were all great. They had a genuine sense of enjoying their jobs and wanting to help. We found this to be true as well at the Grand Hyatt we stayed at following this stay. I have read that the hospitality in Dubai can be a bit better than what you might find in other areas of the world, and I must say we found that to be true. I’m not sure what it is, since many of the workers we encountered and spoke with were not native to the UAE, or even the Middle East, but workers that had traveled there later in life. Either way, it was quite pleasant to be able to interact with employees who seemed to want to genuinely help. Dining We had the pleasure of enjoying the club lounge during breakfast as well as their dinner social. Breakfast was quite good with a wide selection of breads, fruit, cheese, omelets, juices, coffee, middle eastern options and more. Again, service was great and almost like a proper dinner experience. I will note we went and asked the front desk on our final breakfast if we could have it in the main dining area. The agent checked with her supervisor, and he noted it would be ok. We were thinking they may offer some other selections, or possibly even a plated menu. This was not the case, as the breakfast buffet seemed to be just about the same offering in the club lounge, just much busier. So as a note, just enjoy the club lounge and forgo the main dining area.I must have forgotten to take pictures of the nighttime snacks but do remember it being not quite as exciting as breakfast. Although that is to be expected as it is not meant to be a proper dinner. They had a selection of 1 red, 1 white, a sparkling wine and then also several liquors for a mixed drink. Although no real bartender service as my wife had asked for a martini and they said that was not available. Location While certainly not centrally located to many of Dubai attractions, it is a short 5 minute walk to the Dubai metro line which then can be taken to most places of interest. We found it as a good location close to the airport on our arrival, walkable to areas we wanted to see such as the gold souk, spice souk and old town. It was however quite the ride to the Expo 2020, but a seamless process nonetheless. Overall Overall we enjoyed our stay and feel it was a good use of our Hyatt points, especially given the nice options in the club lounge. The hotel is an old gem of Dubai that can be enjoyed still.
