Theft from the baggage claim at O’Hare is not a common problem these days but on the other hand, there is very little protection against someone walking off with your bag. There is a camera or two on the lower level claim area but almost no staffing from the airline or airport. So it’s really down to your own personal risk tolerance as far as letting the bag dizzy itself on the carousel while you shower. Eventually when it becomes clear you won’t be claiming it promptly, someone will come by and put it in a padlocked cage.
