I had a work assignment in 2012-2013 where I flew US every week. I quickly progressed to Gold status and had a nearly 100% upgrade rate on my elite-light weekly route. To me, US got me where I needed to go and almost always on-time, but that was about it. F service on my 3 hour flight was limited to drinks and a lame snack basket. I believe back then meals were only served on flights over 3.5 hours. I did one eastbound transcon during that time and I remember the breakfast service being a granola bar and some yogurt drink - not much to get excited about. Service was generally efficient if indifferent. I never had any problems but never found much for praise. Star Alliance awards were about the best thing they could offer and the 60K J off-peak Europe award was a great deal if you didn't mind Paris in January. Do I miss US? Other than the well-padded seats up front, I don't think there's a whole lot to miss.
