Like the Amstel, De L'Europe is located right on the Amstel River. The hotel has a dock right in front from which you can catch a private boat for a canal cruise. Built in 1896, the hotel was acquired by the Heineken family in the late 1950’s. The hotel consists of 97 rooms, of which half are Junior Suites and 1BR Suites.
Deluxe rooms range from 32-36 sqm while Premium Deluxe offer more space at 40 sqm. Rooms feel more spacious because their shape is more square than long-and-narrow rectangular. Carrara marble bathrooms all have step-in showers and baths. Most rooms have dual vanities and some have desks, so these are preferences to make known at booking. The style of the hotel is traditional; interiors create a feeling of comfortable elegance.

DavidO I just stumbled upon this thread which could not be more timely as I'll be heading to Amsterdam with family in May. I'm currently booked at both the Waldorf (1 Grand Premier Canal View and 1 Junior Suite) vs. 2 Junior Suites at Hotel De L'Europe (the only category available during my dates) and having trouble deciding between the two. On the one hand, it would seem that the Waldorf may provide more spacious accommodations based on available room photos and having stayed twice in the past, whereas De L'Europe has just come out of a total refresh rendering nearly all traveler photos found online to be of no help coupled with a lack of recent postings as a result of the pandemic. The hotel's website lists Junior Suites at 40-50 square meters, but provides a photo that gives no perspective as to the actual room layout--in fact, none of the room photos on the website are particularly helpful. By any chance did you get to see the Junior Suite category during your site visit? I'm keen to try something new in Amsterdam, and from what I've researched De L'Europe is highly regarded, but I'm concerned that the Junior Suites might be still be a little too tight over a 6 night stay and should perhaps stick with the Waldorf where I at least know what to expect more or less? Any additional insight you might have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
