It is clearly a glitch in the system. I've seen rows of two in the back of the plane. I had hopes that the airline was saying the middle seat wouldn't be occupied. I would much rather have a little more width than more pitch. I just upgraded to Comfort Plus on the Transatlantic portion of the flight for $52, which certainly seems reasonable.
