Flew SFO-SEA Thursday night. Initially, the messaging option erred out when I tried to connect. Came back several minutes later and connected fine. Then I noticed Facebook seemed to be working...was wondering if it was because messenger is part of the free messaging options. Then I realized I could browse...in fact, to test, I came to FT and was able to browse threads, etc.
Today, came back, and signed into the messaging and worked like expected....messaging worked, but not browsing. So the flight over must have been a bug, which I figured.
Similar. UA796 (3/6/22, IAD-DEN, B789) had full wifi service tho only selected messaging on my phone. I never tested switching devices. Wasnt sure if it was an equipment SNAFU, perhaps a Dreamliner feature, a test, or just a benefit. I was in F, but used the web page (unitedwifi.com) to connect rather than the UA app. They still surely were able to pair the device to me, so wasnt sure if it was a targeted feature.
