Perhaps the question might be what was the verbally stated reason the bartender gave the pax for not honoring the drink request? If in fact the bartender stated, or verbally implied in so many words, because a tip did not occur previously then the bartender should be fired, IMO, or at least reprimanded.
Absolutely. Which is why I asked if OP actually heard those words leave the bartender's mouth or just simply assumed.
