Quick review of AA 292 JFK- DEL
Went with some trepidation- am not a AA FF. The flight in J which was completely full was overall surprisingly good. From very good service ( gasp) from the crew to decent food, an aging but still (very) good hard product ( was in a window in the middle of the main J section) and great Casper bedding overall I grade the flight very good. Also the JFK FL was much better than expected , better than the jammed Amex Centurion lounge. I liked the champagne station at the entrance at the front of a corridor when you initially enter where you are handed a flute. Great touch despite the budget bubbly.
Some (minor except for first one) criticisms:
1. J check in was chaotic with no bag drop allowed for india even with the PP scanned and VeriFLY submitted. They had 3 counters for a long line with slow doc check. Everyone was saying economy check was staffed better and moving faster. Bad start.
2. Minor quibbles with the seat- the one thing that’s badly designed is the fixed tray table that does not move front/ back and is a pain unless the seat is almost fully upright. But offset by two air nozzles that were great in the somewhat hot cabin. Got a good sleep.
3. The Casper bedding is overall very good except I found the mattress pad a bit thin and could feel the seat gaps in my back. Polaris mattress pads better.
4. Wifi was $35 for the flight duration- only option. When it worked which was about half the time I was awake it was (barely) passable. Could not figure out ( but did not really try) signing out and in from phone to iPad.
That’s it. Delhi immigration and bags were very fast- airport was deserted other than this flight at arrival time.
