I've seen Aeroplan literally buy a ticket. That's not the same thing as one airline rebooking you on another airline in a fare class higher than ticketed.
I’m just using the wording that the supervisor used. He said that he’ll “buy you” a revenue ticket on the united flight as there was no award space available.
