FWIW, I made a new booking on 2 March using a June 2022 expiry date voucher to see what would happen. I quickly got an email back about returning the voucher. The Avios have been refunded already. The cash charge hasn't yet reached my credit card, and perhaps now never will. But the voucher is still in the "used voucher" list with the original expiry date.
Just to complete the story on these:
The pre-existing FTV was automatically refunded overnight, and the voucher that wasn't even showing in the "used vouchers" list is now back as an available voucher with an expiry date of 30 September 2023.
The speculative test booking that I made on 2 March was refunded (Avios and cash) the next day, but the voucher took 10 days to move back from the "used vouchers" list. This has its original June 2022 expiry date. I suspect that it's going to end up going to waste.
