Maybe a pre-paid option might work best for you since there is no contract needed.
I've been told there is an unadvertised promo with T-Mobile right now where the minutes don't expire for a year (minimum purchase of a $25 recharge card).
I do plan on doing a lot of calling while in the US. The last time I had a US account it was $40 per month for 1000 nationwide minutes. I would like to get something like that again, but without a long-term contract.
Also, most of my time will be in LA where I understand T-Mobile has poor coverage. Is that still true?
