SQ Premium Economy vs UA Economy Plus
If flying from SIN to SFO & the other way (> 15 hours), would you choose SQ's Premium Economy over UA's Economy Plus? UA Premium Economy on the same flights are much more expensive, hence the question. For me the criteria are:
1. Food: The longer the flight, the more the quality and quantity of on-board food matters. UA's food in economy is terrible. True, you can buy food & take on board, but because you pretty much need 1 entire day's worth of food for this flight, it's not realistic to rely solely on what you take on board, especially stuff you can buy at airports. The issue I have with UA's food in economy is that it's full of carbs and they don't give much of it. I can barely survive their long flights. I've flown UA SIN-SFO in both directions & I arrived at my destination both times with insulin-induced hunger (due to carbs & small portion sizes) and migraine. Not pleasant. Will SQ's food in Premium economy be much better?
2. Seat comfort: I do expect SQ's premium economy seats to be more comfortable, but does it make a qualitative difference in terms of recline, width & ability to sleep?
The alternative is for me to buy UA economy and hope I get upgraded to Polaris using miles + cash. Polaris is great. The food is leagues better than what they serve in the back of the plane.
(PS: I'm aware of and have tried UA's special diabetic/low carb meal, but it's terrible as well, for different reasons. Besides, often my plans change at the last minute & I don't have the luxury of pre-booking a special meal 2-3 days in advance.)
