Please do realize that if it were not for the RJ there would not be service to most of these cities. Granted they are long flts but anything larger would be financially foolish. I would think that if some of these markets mature and the scope clause was changed or mainline pilots flew them you might see some Ejets on the property.
Who knows, there may be some available real soon (US). If the price is right and CAL ALPA can come to an understanding it could happen.
Appreciate the perspective, but there are a handful of markets that could sustain mainline service, but there still are RJs on them. IAH-IAD comes to mind as a glaring example.
I don't think people complain about short hops (e.g., IAD-EWR), but when it goes over 500 miles, there is some passenger loss created by people using alternate airports or other carriers.
