As with the
2021 data, information for each of Marriott's 11 regions/countries (
Africa, Asia, Australia & Pacific Islands, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Mexico, Middle East, South America and USA) is available via different search methods on their website and, of course, generate different totals.
For ROW (Rest of World: all regions/countries besides USA), three different numbers are generated from these searches: a) the number of hotels in a given country grouped into a region (2582), b) the number of hotels from each country by region itself (2858) and c) the number of hotels from each region by category.(2502). Part of the challenge is that there are either duplications or omissions by country and some are dependent on whether Marriott has fully categorized all hotels in its data base since there are always hotels going in and out of their system. The differences are shown accordingly. Finally, for each region/country group, I use the 2582 value to compute the percentage of Marriott hotels in that region out of all hotels in the ROW.
For USA, this breaks down as: a) the number of hotels in a given state (5608), b) the number of hotels from each state itself (5610) and c) the number of hotels from all states by category.(5590).
Again,
why are the 10 virtual Antarctica properties listed as part of Asia?
