I checked out some YouTube videos (as suggested above - thanks!) and decided on United. On the BA site they list the aircraft type but then on Seat Gurus, there are several versions of each type and BA didn't list which version. I'd like to try the BA Club World seats one day, but in the end, United was about $800 cheaper and showed exactly what aircraft and I was able to choose my seat at no extra charge.

Glad it worked out for you. Just so you can get a bit more out of it, this may help...
I'm not sure what route you're taking (eg, IAH->FRA->FCO is one route, but there are a few others) but a day or two ahead of your flight, punch your flight into
flightradar24.com and you should be able to see a (seven day) history of your flight as well as which tail you're flying on (the tail should be there a day or two before the actual flight... might change last minute, but this should give you an idea). The tail number should be linked in blue. Copy that number and you should be able to search the configuration of the seats (and some history). With that, you should be able to look up the config on seatguru (although keep in mind seat guru can be inaccurate as well).
