I am not sure if a CWS post is necessarily definitive, but in normal circumstances (given the absence of specific details) it would be allowed if on a single PNR, so it is the separate PNRs which is the problem, and because AA isn't on Amadeus they won't get the accidental through check option that sometimes happens.
