For 2022, Marriott continues to segment its brands into four groups (and my abbreviations in parentheses): Luxury (LUX), Premium (PRM), Select (SEL) and Longer Stay (LNG). If you go to Marriott's Explore Our Brands page (
https://www.marriott.com/marriott-brands.mi), they break each of these into subgroups of Classic and Distinctive and then separate out "Collections" (Autograph, Design, Tribute) just to make things even more complicated.
I've just kept to the four major groups and referenced them accordingly for each brand's assigned group.
As in previous years, Courtyard, Fairfield Inn and Residence Inn continue to be dominant by sheer quantity: 3413 properties or 41% of all hotels. Adding in the next set of 4, including the largest among the previous SPG brands, Sheraton, the 7 brands compose over 67% all hotels worldwide within Marriott's portfolio.
