This is not news.

True upgrades do not change the base fare so no earnings change. Upfares, on the other hand, do increase the base fare so your earnings increase.

Hopefully they are adding that language to upgrades so we will now be able to tell which are upgrades are which are upfares.

I have an upcoming flight PHX-BNA ow. The offer I see in the app is exactly the fare difference between what I paid and the currently cheapest F fare. It's clearly an upfare and it does not have the "no LP" clause.
