Greatly appreciate the review, and good to hear you had a fabulous stay. Funny enough I had done a very similar road trip to yours last year (and in 2020 though the route I took that time was reversed) and I was here for a 2-night stay; it was my first Le Meridien and made a great first impression for the brand. Flagship for the rest of the brand, though? Bold claim.
Service was enthusiastic, the staff seemed to be very proud of their hotel. I’m not sure of the hotel’s oceanic nautical theme in inland Missouri but *shrug*. The styling… it’s chic, with little touches of uniqueness everywhere from the light fixtures to the lobby to the dining room area in the restaurant. It’s able to back up its uniqueness and it’s not being interesting just to cover up its cheapness. One strange thing was the light switch for the headboard- it’s this tiny little circular black dot on the headboard itself. No attempt at color coordination but it is so small that more than one person will miss it and not know it’s there. The restaurant was still closed when I was there so I picked up breakfast at the coffee shop. One note: I appreciate the effort, but bircher museli/overnight oats should not be bound together with peanut butter.
Great hotel, but would I stay here compared with downtown STL (stayed at the Westin in 2020, next to the baseball stadium)? Depends on how you are going to get around. From the Le Meridien, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the Metrolink station and the hotel is a much more central location to the sites further out in the western suburbs (assuming you have a car of course). Whereas with the Westin, you can easily walk from one place to another and there is a Metrolink station right outside the hotel. Though I will say this: the neighborhood just south of the Westin is very sketchy.
