Unless there happens to be C inventory in advance, very unlikely for HI route, upgrade awards are going to be near impossible for people without status now that comp upgrades are for everyone. At the gate every PLT/GLD getting their comp upgrade will be ahead of a non status passenger with their 15k+cash.
