I agree with the above. This one is a bit abstract, but BA can offer alternative services - usually 2 or 3 days before, up to 14 days after in the cabin, beyond that in the fare bucket - and that seems to hold in court. They have to offer a rebooking option. There isn't a direct right to use other airlines but if BA isn't operating the route at all then it's difficult to avoid that. Right to care costs are preserved if you're held up overnight but BA won't normally state that before travel. Recording your rejection of the BA option(s) is worth doing, depending on what the outcome becomes.
Though if held up overnight they become liable for food/drink, hotel and transport to/from the hotel.
