With Fedex, not only is breakage unlikely, but if it does happen, you'll have an accountable, profitable, business to go after, not a government agency pointing fingers at someone else.
When traveling with a gift, whether carry-on or checked baggage do not wrap it since there is a good chance it may be opened when screened. If the gift is very fragile then my suggestion is to pack it well and ship it.
