Need recommendations for alternative to BankDirect
I'm a 10-year veteran of BankDirect, but this newly implemented multifactor authentication on EVERY login makes it unusable.
My banking needs are pretty elementary: 3 to 5 automatic monthly deposits, 15 to 20 automated 3rd party monthly payments. I also use the deposit check function on my phone a few times a month, and write physical checks a few times a year. I check the account activity at least once a day.
My current use of BankDirect for normal banking/checking functions is a simple hangover from when they offered AA miles. Since the relationship between BankDirect and Bask Bank is not automated (same-day transfers require a message to their respective support desks), I see no obvious downside in moving the normal banking/checking functions elsewhere. I find BankDirect's $2,000 average monthly balance requirement to avoid fees to be reasonable.
I already have accounts at Fidelity and Schwab (both of which waive ATM fees), but worry a bit about too much consolidation (i.e. do I really want someone at a brokerage to be able to see each and every credit card payment?).
My issue with multifactor authorization is terrible cellular reception at my home --- a BankDirect authorization code requested 35 minutes ago just arrived, and has already expired. Yesterday I had to request codes from Chase six times before one arrived to my phone. This doesn't provide additional security, just additional hassle.
TIA for advise of recommended banking solutions.
