Yes, there are different levels....one for additional just entry into the USA and another that goes beyond. I bought 2 one-way tickets (into Turkey and return to the USA from Paris) and tickets between countries. My wife also flew with me, but had round trip tickets and did not get flagged. I got the extra screening and in SFO, my own TSA lane, with 5 agents to help. In RDU, I actually had 2 TSA agents watch me at the gate. All the TSA agents were very nice but had to take it very seriously.
Another interesting thing happens a couple of weeks ago on my return flight to Newark from Sao Paulo. All the global Entry passager got secondary screening. Took our passports and all 10+ of us follow the agent, this also included a pilot from a different flight. Was asked a series of questions and my luggage was screened and a quick search of one bag. The agent was very professional and nice about it. This was the first time it has happened; I have entered the USA 50+ times over the last 10 years. I go to Europe in couple of weeks, let's see what happens
