Is there a preferred alternative itinerary available? If so, call and get put on that. We so many daily flights from LHR to JFK, I find it hard to imagine there is not something better. They can force open award space for schedule changes on an DL flight.

And yes, it is standard practice for DL to only send out emails for minor schedule changes (i.e. 5 minutes) and not the big ones.
