I have been there.

It all depends what you are looking for. There is a lot of gay life, but it is almost all German and British, and all the bars are located (believe it or not) in a shopping center called the Yumbo Center. If you are going there for the gay life be sure to stay immediately around that.

It is not all that warm at all, expecially during the winter. The sun is rather low in the sky. Some of the pools are not heated and lose all their heat at night, and are freezing.

The club scene is rather cool, and it wasn't really expensive.

The beach is beautiful, yet strange. Once you hit the sand, it can take you another 20 minutes or more to hit the water; the beach is that wide, and filled with dunes that can exhaust you walking up and down.

I believe that the island is a former volcano. Taking a car into the interior was one of the best things that we did.

Gran Canaria is kind of a haul. You got to get to Madrid (or where ever) and then down from there.

In making reservations, I would attempt to make reservations directly with the place you are staying at. I made reservations through one of those reservations services and found that many people who were staying there were paying far less making their reservations direct. There are a lot of gay rip out artists out there.

One negative. I don't know if this was just at the place we were staying. But the island is rather dry. There is very little water. Therefore, the room we rented had like a 5 or 10 gallon water heater in the interest of conserving water. You had to rinse, turn the water off, soap up, turn the water back on to rinse, otherwise you ran out of hot water in the mater of a very few minutes. No such thing as a long relaxing shower.

I wouldn't mind going back, but it is not at the top of my list.
