A few days, sure, but after the hotel's official check in time? BTW, the Bonvoy/SPG deadline is roughly 24 hours, in time for the last sweep in the early afternoon (local time of the hotel) on the day before arrival.
you can for sure apply a TSU even standing at the check in desk (but before they actually check you in so they can attach the upgrade certificate). Experienced this at a property that wouldn’t upgrade me to the standard suite at check-in, but said they will if I applied a TSU, so I applied one right at the desk. Would have fought it but was further upgraded to a premium suite after I voiced my displeasure to the manager that greeted me AFTER it was applied but BEFORE I left the desk.
