Good to hear that the plan's M fares are acting like normal M fares, which have been instant upgrade eligible for 75k's for a while. Sounds to me like you just booked on a flight with U space available and everything else worked as normal.
If the tickets booked through the pass weren't eligible for instant upgrades, that would be yet another reason that it's not a good deal for most frequent flyers.
