Whether you rent for a day or a month with Avis/Budget, you will earn the exact same number of AAdvantage miles: 1,250 per rental as an EXP. Unfortunately, you will also be charged a fee of $1.00+tax for each day of rental for earning AA miles, so shorter rentals are a better deal then longer rentals when crediting Avis/Budget to AA.
For longer rentals, you just have to decide whether earning rental-day credits from the rental-car company rather than miles is the better value proposition for you.
Thank you for that - I was looking at each of the rental car companies instead of going to AA first! In your experience is that the best option, getting AA miles for the rental? I did see the "FTP SR$ 1.00DY" charge on my 2 day rental, so get point about there being some extra cost to the miles. So 6 rentals = 7,500 miles or 1 free rental day. So about half a flight or a free rental. Which seems like both could be worth around $100 if you were strategic. So is this a wash?
I feel like I might be missing something with the Avis/CSR perk, but I will explore that in the Avis forum.
