I have been using the Chase UR Portal to buy AA Flights due to the 5% back on CSR (which I then redeem at a 50% bonus for Pay Yourself Back so effectively 7.5% back on flights). Obviously loved this. Great protection on CSR and unbeatable cash back on flights.
My version of the portal recently updated from the old Expedia one to the new Connections Loyalty version. I purchased a flight the other day and it wouldn't show a receipt with price when I would go to AA and click Print Trip and Receipt. I remember this being an issue with the older portal - that these flights would show up as "Special Fares" on this chart.
https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-p...cial-fares.jsp. So I canceled the flight and booked straight through AA because this was a business expense and I needed a receipt with the Flight Cost and credit card charged on it. Note that I was paying fully for the flight, not redeeming points or something like that, and the flight cost is the same through the portal and through AA directly, so why not buy this way and collect the extra points when it costs my company the same amount.
I don't know if this is a new portal issue - in which case I won't be able to take advantage of the 5% back on flights through the portal when it comes to work flights because I won't be able to submit a receipt. That is, will any flight purchased always show up without fare information? Anyone who has had that portal longer, I'd love to hear what you are seeing.
And, if I do use it, it seems like the Loyalty Points earned are going to take a hit depending on the particular flight. I do recall going through the portal and Special Fares receiving the same bonus (120% for EXP) on miles earned through a Special Fares ticket. So I am guessing that the Base Miles column on the chart about would actually include the 120% bonus for Loyalty points too since that's how they rang up before. But it looks like you'll have to be really careful/aware of what booking code the flights are in because 25% or 50% of miles flown vs the $ is going to be brutal.
Two other data points.
- in the older version of the portal, the purchase flight would show up on my CC as a charge from American Airlines. Now they show up as
CL *Chase Travel.
- in the older version of the portal, rental cars (National is what I use) showed up as Chase Travel now they show up as CL *Chase Travel too. The older version I would get a receipt from National with the cost and credit card information on the receipt. I still got rental credits from National on my last rental, but I don't really care too much about them.
