The idea that it's a dead brand is certainly a slight exaggeration, Westin has been opening a couple of new properties a year, but it's hardly a healthy growth rate.

That said, it has never been a chain with a high turnover rate. A huge chunk of the current Westin hotels are pre-Starwood legacy properties that have been there since the 1990s.
