I think you got the IATA codes for the airports confused.
IST is the city's principal airport for commercial aviation
ISL is the code now used for Ataturk, the old airport.
It's probably best to refer to them as IST and Ataturk
Thanks and sorry - in 2019 I visited the new airport two times only and since then, my travel break seems to have been too long - I did not realise they changed the codes.
I updated the post above and thread title accordingly, avoiding the codes, to make this searchable for anyone else later looking up the same information. Thanks again for pointing it out.

Good point, thanks again. In my case SAW doesn't help – when there is no traffic on the motorways, the drive from the new airport isn't much longer to my final destination (time wise). Also, I took the last C class flight to my country from SAW in 2019 before TK suspended service from SAW in 2020. I don't want to spend 4 hours in a small plane in Y with some other airline in the current COVID situation, visiting a vulnerable family member., I want to avoid all queues and crowds as much as possible. At least TK has real C class seats to the new airport, most of them empty, and the fast tracks for check in work perfectly.
