Hyatt Place Phoenix/Chandler-Fashion Center REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Recapping my stay earlier this month.

At the time of this post, this property is a Cat 2 level. The rates for February can be pretty extreme due to baseball spring training, sporting events (more on that later), and people like me escaping the cold winter weather. So, I was very happy to use one of my Cat 1-4 certs and get some good value for it and it would have been even better if I had used points. Luckily, a short dip in prices allowed me to book at a decent revenue rate so I did one award night and then two paid nights for my stay.

The property is a new build and not a former Amerisuites located in the western side of Chandler, near the intersection of 101 and Loop 202. As the name suggests, it's also adjacent to the Fashion Center shopping mall so there are quite a few places to eat nearby. The hotel has three stories and is configured in a open-ended triangle surrounding a central courtyard and swimming pool. The rooms are larger than the Amerisuites; the bedroom and bath is separated from the living room by a full wall (but no doors). The spacious living room has a L-shaped sofa, desk with an office chair and lamp, and a small mini-fridge and CV1 coffee maker. The bathroom had a walk-in tiled shower and single sink. There are rooms on the ground floor facing the courtyard with patios and one room on the second and third floors with a fully enclosed balcony; both types have a round table and some outdoor chairs and are sold at a higher room rate. As a Globalist, I was offered a complimentary upgrade to a patio suite for the paid portion of my reservation, but we were happy with our regular suite at the end of one of the wings with an exterior view (the lack of privacy and noise from the pool makes the patio suites unattractive to me). The soundproofing was really good and the noise from the road and neighboring rooms were minimal. There was ample free parking, especially in the back of the hotel and there were multiple entrances to use with card key access.

I didn't have any issues getting my free bottled waters each morning. The hotel served a full hot breakfast every morning of scrambled eggs and pork link sausages. One morning, french toast strips replaced the breakfast potatoes. There was also trays of frozen tortilla wraps with egg and cheese or egg and chorizo filling that could be warmed in one of the three microwave ovens in the breakfast room. Other options included cold cereals, instant oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit cups, and bread/english muffins/bagels. In the lobby was a large table of extra towels and toiletry items for guest to self-replenish their room stocks.

During our stay, the majority of the hotel was booked for a youth hockey tournament so there were a lot of kids running around playing hotel tag in the hallways and one morning a group of them decided it was a good idea to set up an indoor hockey game in the hallway outside of our room. I was glad that we left the hotel each morning after breakfast and returning around 10 each night.

Overall, I would stay here again and use points or certs to get good value if the paid rates are inflated.
