Front desk people lazy, untrained or ?...
Have traveled some last year some, not a ton like I have in the past but things are picking up quite a bit this year. I see what hasn't changed at Marriott is the front desk people at some of the properties. Had a red eye and checked into the JW Marriott DC this morning and even though I put 8:30am check in from the app, I figured it was going to be hit or miss if I might get a room right away. Went to the elite line, no other customers there, woman takes my name and ID checks computer for a second and says check in time is 3pm, we'll call you when your room is ready. I ask, can you check if you have anything right now? and she just gives me blank stare and repeats check in time is at 3pm.
Dude two stations over was apparently overhearing our conversation, walks over and promptly says come over here let me check something. Does his keyboard fiddling and says I see you are Titanium (with other woman next to him who eventually walks away). Minute later, he's like I have a king room for you but it's not a high floor. I'm like great, I'll take it. Only here for two nights so don't care about an upgrade just want to get in the room...
Just a reminder of how apathetic some of the Marriott front desk people can be. Also baffles me why they would have either an untrained or lazy front desk agent handling the elite line. I miss the SPG days when they would bend over backwards for the platinum members...
