I actually just did the dummy booking tonight and cancelled it right away and did the request voucher... Had to use it by Feb 28 and the flight I booked and cancelled was on Feb 26. Hopefully that does not cause an issue being in such a short window.

EDIT: Got future travel vouchers e-mailed right away after canceling... Says I need to call to use for booking. I might call tomorrow to confirm that I can change destinations and class of service.

Were you successful getting yours extended?
