To maximize fleet utilization, I expect. That was much easier when business travel was booming pre-pandemic — filling up planes on weekdays. But now that business travel remains so weak, the equation is a lot tougher for WestJet. They can’t only operate the airline on weekends when there is peak vacation traveller demand.
(Other routes see less-than-ideal scheduling, too. Merida, for example, operates 1x per week … on Tuesdays.)
