He seems to be listed twice, second time starting in June 1977, though it seems he passed away August 1st 1978 a replacement is not listed until June 1979. Could the company have had no chairman until one was appointed at the next general assembly? Being borne in 1894 one might venture a guess that his role as chairman in 1977 was more decorative than actively participating in the running of the company.
As a side track, isn't that an issue with a lot of Japanese corporate governance that the board of directors are mainly internal and decorative? Hello Olympus, Toshiba, and Nissan I am looking in your direction.
