From reading the messages on the threads regarding Storm Eunice and T5 baggage, and having to experience this BA mess on Feb 19 and 20, most of us would cut BA some slack if they just communicated better. In OPO no updated flight info was ever displayed on the FIDS. No text message on the delay was sent. No announcements of any type, then when they cancelled? Silence. Luckily, someone at their SOC updated their flight tracking after a bit, which I was following. The OPO contract staff was clueless. The LHR customer service staff are overwhelmed. And the BA leadership is nowhere to be found. BA compounded this entire weather event by trying to operate a schedule when they knew their staffing was crap and that there would be times when flying or having staff working near a jet would be a safety issue and need to be shut down. This isn’t a weather issue. This is a poorly run operational issue. I spent 36 years with a US carrier that faced a lot of the same problems in a couple of weather events and performed just as s@&t as BA. Without going into all the areas that need correcting. I would’ve happily continued my holiday in OPO until later when things improved. But because I never received any correct flight information prior to needing to go to the airport, my wife and I were part of this mess compounding itself. Luckily, I was able to arrive back at LAX, albeit without baggage, frustrated and disappointed in BA’s lack of customer service, to include their useless LAX baggage staff member. However, for those once a year family travelers? This was a horrible ordeal. Watching a global airline be this crappy at having any sort of plan and just winging it during a very severe storm is mind boggling. I hate that I’m indentured to OW airlines for my business. Because even with this melt down, I will unfortunately be flying BA again. I’m sure there are many like me. I see no reason for BA to learn 1 lesson from their many mistakes. The one bright spot? Their J cabin crews were nothing short of spectacular on all 4 legs of this holiday. Good luck to all, Cheers.
