Since AA and UA fly non-stop from HNL to Texas (DFW and IAH) and you are then just have a simple second flight away McAllen, I don't follow why you would bother with Alaska if most of your flying will be to southern Texas. MVPG upgrades are not that common on many routes, and that is particularly true on AS from Hawaii to the West Coast. You could credit your AA flights to your Alaska Air mileage plan account, but that won't be helpful with FC upgrades.
