Customer Service is insisting that I have to divide up our family into two sets of reservations to be upgrade eligible and all the horror stories of cancelled flights recently I would like us on the same ticket if that happens and we are rebooked. Thanks for your help.
1)they're correct. All persons on one reservation must be flying same route in same cabin.

2)Rebooking for reservation with that many people in IRROPS will likely needed to be broken up anyway. 6 seats last minute on same flight is highly unlikely. Knowing O/D and dates we could give better idea if practical or not at all.
