My TA recently booked flights for my wife and I from Burlington VT to Florence Italy through Dulles and Zurich on United. When United sent me the confirmation I noticed that they had my wife’s name wrong. They used her first name, middle name and middle name again rather then her last name. My TA contacted United and was informed that since the leg from Zurich to Florence was on Swiss Air and not United that they could not rebook the flight to correct they issue but would address it through a comment in the OSI section. This I was told would alert the United Reps at check in to the name issue. My TA told me that this is common practice with the airline industry. My question remains, what happens when she gets to TSA Security and her name on the boarding pass does not match her ID? What about Italian Customs? Anyone have experience with this situation.
