Unfortunately, when traveling everyone needs to have their own escape/emergency plan no matter where they're bat. That's why I never completely unpack and stay in hotels months at a time. I know most people aren't as cautious as I am, but I have a jacket with numerous pockets and keep all my most important things in there and if I have to leave a airplane or any building immediately, I'll have everything with me. I always look at floor plans and what I've discovered is most of them are inaccurate for leaving the floor. Some actually have you walk past the nearest exit to go to an exit 'they" want you to use. Always take the nearest exit. Just like at home, always have an emergency bag/compartment with all your most important items needed. Hotel staff have no clue what to do in most cases. It's and individual responsibility. Most survivors of catastrophic events took it upon themselves to survive instead of waiting for help that will never come.
