Agreed on Hwy 2! But, my last trip across Montana was mostly on I-90, except we took the shortcut from Montana to South Dakota, instead of taking the long loop on I-90 through Wyoming. This was Highway 212, which does have about 10-15 miles in the far NW corner of Wyoming, but saves 75 miles on taking I-90 the whole way. It is faster to drive from Washington to Minneapolis via South Dakota than through North Dakota.
