I always ask for the fare basis - have been occasionally told that they can't see it..., but then I ask for change/cancellation fees at least.
So then I'd have to call in to do it to be able to ask the rules? Bah, almost sounds like more hassle for only 2x more points that direct. Maybe I'll stick to booking off-brand hotels and cars through it for the 10x(when it actually makes sense and is the same price).
