Sorry to be reviving old thread, but the artificially low maximum occupancy seems to be more and more pervasive, especially for redemption rooms.

Looking for example at the The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort - a 1500sq foot Family Beach Villa - with 2 queen beds and 1 rollaway/crib permitted is coming up as maximum capacity 3. (not an overwater villa so child safety isn't the issue). What is the point of twin queen beds if a family room cannot accommodate 4 people?

I suspect contacting the hotel directly but it makes the Bonvoy search tool almost useless for family travellers.
