AA moving back to T3 was in recognition that their operation was increasing as was BA plus a strategic move given the importance of LHR. Why give up space in a terminal that you will still need in long term?
Moving long haul from T3 to T5 and short haul the other way is Heathrow addressing the imbalance and making best use of resources without reopening T4. Terminal capacity planning is a meticulously planned operation conducted by the airport and slot coordinators. If you think BA/AA are throwing darts at the wall in order to decide what goes where, you’re mistaken. Believe what you want indeed, but that’s the reason it’s happening.
