The latter is a couple more hours, but the bigger problem is it adds a hotel overnight in Jakarta (thus lopping a day off my 30 day visa) and another overnight in New York. The Tokyo layover is 3 hrs 35 minutes, barely above the recommended minimum.3 h30m time for transferring. And of course with current rules you can't even do HND-NRT. I'm tempted to book the HND-NRT flight anyway, but would appreciate any advice on this.
I would say there is a reasonable chance that it will be possible to transit between airports in September. However, 3h 35m between the two airports is not a lot of time. I would not feel comfortable with that connection, it will certainly be rushed. JAL does not have a Jakarta to Haneda flight, Garuda and ANA does seem to have, but the question would also be will the full capacity return to the schedule by September.
