The issue with connecting at MIA isn't the layout of the airport per se but the gate situation at MIA, particularly if you're connecting during the evening. I'd would avoid connecting at MIA for evening flights and if no alternative give yourself at least 2 hours. More acute in summer with thunderstorms.
There's 2 ACs (one remains closed) and they are insanely crowded, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. Not unusual to see a line of 30+ people deep trying to get in. Of course, now with the CLT C club closed the CLT B club has overtaken MIA for most crowded lounge.
